Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I grew up on a small farm in the booming town of Lowell, Oregon (population 712). On that farm, my dad built a three-story tree house. The tree house had trap doors on every floor, along with windows and a really nice balcony on the third floor. It was awesome!!
That tree house was my fortress…my escape. As a kid, I frequently climbed the tree house and sat on the balcony for hours, knowing that no one could get to me. I was safe.
I’m an adult now. And although there are times that I would like to escape and unwind in a three-story tree house, I can’t. But I do take shelter in God, my Heavenly Father, who provides something so much better than three-story wood-framed tree house – Himself. He is my refuge. He is my fortress. No matter what I am facing. Whether that is a financial storm, a health storm, a family storm, a relationship storm, or even a weather storm, I know that I can go to my Heavenly Father and find shelter.
