1 Corinthians 9:24-25 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
In 1976, a runner carrying the Olympic Torch went past our town and for a brief moment, my brother and I ran alongside the runner. We were even allowed to touch the torch. It was all very exciting.
This week as I watched those that stood on the Olympic podium wearing their gold, silver and bronze medals I was reminded that these individuals did not win by chance – they worked for it. They practiced day-in-and-day-out. They sacrificed. They gave it their all.
As followers of Jesus, Christians, we need to be disciplined like these Olympian winners. We need to disciplined and dedicate time to read and study the Bible; to pray and talk with our Heavenly Father; to be like Jesus. Unfortunately, many of us have become “couch potatoes” – lazy and undisciplined. ENOUGH!! It’s time to start training.
RUN TO WIN. Knowing that it won’t be an earthly medal that you will win but a crown that will last forever.
